I was inspired by my Aunt Betty and Grandma Cleo.
As a child I loved to hear my Aunt's sewing machine and the sound it would make. I was in awe to see the finished product, which were usually drapes for the windows, and holiday decorations in her home. Grandma Cleo would make quilts by hand using all of our clothes that we had out grown; which was truly amazing!
When I retired in 2019 I needed a hobby. Approximately 6 months later I attended a funeral and ran into one of my cousins that I had not seen in over 30 years. She invited me back to her home after the service where I discovered through conversation that she knew how to make quilts. She also offered a beginner's classes at her church once a month on Saturday mornings and I began to attend.
My first sewing machine was a Brother that I purchased for $150. I would sew all day and all night! And so began my passion for quilting.
I soon moved from Wisconsin to live in Lexington Kentucky. I learned a lot from my sewing classes but but wanted to venture into my own creativity which I could say that I am self taught.
I had to go back to work part time to pay for all the fabric I needed to support this habit. God opened a door. One day I went to a fabric store in Georgetown KY only to find out while shopping that the store offered classes. I took one of the classes where I met several other ladies that welcomed me into their sewing circle.
Over the last eight years, I have made countless quilts for family, friends, and also donations that include Quilts of Valor for Veterans, homeless shelters for boys and girls, and my Church. I believe this to be my calling from God.
I am truly happy when I am designing and sewing my quilts. All Glory, Honor and Praise to God for the gift He has given me!
